The Art Center is supported under an agreement between the Tennessee Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts. We thank the Tennessee General Assembly and the Tennessee Arts Commission for their support.

The following policies are now in effect for classes and workshops.

Items addressed in the policy will help us maintain good working relationships with our students and regular & guest instructors. We have tried to be as clear as possible to avoid confusion; however, if you have questions or need clarification on any points, please call the Art Center at 482-1441 and speak to Leah.

Class Registrations, Tuitions, & Fees:

Registration or enrollment may be made by phone, e-mail, or mail. Classes have a recommended minimum and maximum number of students per class delineated by the instructor or the Art Center. Individuals requesting participation may be placed on a waiting list once the maximum number of students has been reached and may be called in order of request for participation should an opening appear.

A deposit of $25 is required to enroll or register for classes. Full class tuition is due one week in advance of the first class. Alternate arrangements may be made only on a case by case basis at the discretion of the Director. Students wishing such consideration must speak with the Director prior to the first class for such arrangements. Tuitions for a regular 8 week session are: $120, $100 to members for clay classes $100, $80 to members for other studio classes Tuitions for alternate termed classes shall be based on the regular session fees.

Materials and model fees will be individually assessed and are not eligible to be prorated. These fees should be paid prior to the beginning of class with tuition. Pro-rating for students wishing to join an in progress class will be at the instructor’s discretion with Art Center approval. Students wishing to join an in-progress class should contact the Art Center and the Art Center staff will convey the request to the instructor. The staff will figure the prorated fee based on the number of classes left in the session. A late enrollment fee will be charged to non-members in addition to the prorated tuition based on the full class term length ($20, $15, or $10). The Art Center does not prorate class fees for absences or students who withdraw early.

Enrollment preference is given to Art Center members.
• The first 10 days after going to press with class listings (bulk mailing date) only members and continuing students may enroll. Non-members who call will be placed on a waiting list for the class in order of submission.
• After 10 days, non-members on the waiting list will be moved to the class roster. Registration then is on a first come, first served basis.
• Member tuition will be $20 less than non-member tuition (for a full session class)

Attendance/Make-Up Classes:

Number of classes per session will be indicated in the class listing. Attendance to classes is at the discretion of the student. Make-up sessions will be offered only if the instructor or the Art Center cannot hold classes as scheduled. Every effort will be made to notify students of changes ahead the class in question and to fulfill the complete class term.

Class Cancellations:

Cancellations by student – If the student must cancel his/her participation in a class he/she has enrolled in, they should call the Art Center as soon as possible with notification. • If notification is more than 14 days prior to the class start date, there is no penalty for canceling. Money will be refunded or a credit will be given to those students who have prepaid (student’s discretion).
• Tuitions are non-refundable once classes have begun.

Cancellations by the Art Center – The Art Center may cancel classes or workshops due to lack of interest or registrations at any time through the first class or by the indicated “make or break date.” Students registered in classes or workshops that do not appear to have enough registrations to make them viable will be notified as soon as the situation is apparent. Registration fees for canceled classes or workshops will be refunded or credited (student’s discretion). If an instructor cannot complete a class or workshop term as scheduled, the Art Center reserves the right to substitute an instructor or cancel the balance of classes in the session as circumstances warrant. Should classes be canceled, the balance of tuitions will be refunded or credited (student’s discretion).

Workshops:

Policies are basically the same for workshops as above for general session with the following exceptions:

A deposit of one-half the tuition is required to enroll or register for workshops. Full tuition is due well in advance of the first day of the workshop and must be remitted by the indicated “make or break date.” Alternate arrangements may be made only on a case by case basis at the discretion of the Director. Students wishing such consideration must speak with the Director prior to the first class for such arrangements.

Tuitions for workshops are based on the instructor’s fee, materials included, Art Center overhead, term of workshop, etc. and will be set by the Director and/or appropriate chair. Materials and model fees will be individually assessed and should be paid with tuition.

Workshop Cancellations:

Cancellations by student – If the student must cancel his/her participation in a class he/she has enrolled in, they should call the Art Center as soon as possible with notification. • If notification is 14 days prior to the “make or break date,” there is no penalty for canceling. Money will be refunded or a credit will be given to those students who have prepaid (student’s discretion).
• If notification is less than 14 days in advance of the “make or break date,” the student will forfeit his deposit.
• Tuitions are refundable after the “make or break date” only if the slot is filled by another student (waiting list).

Attendance:

Number of session per workshop will be indicated in the workshop listing. Attendance to classes is at the discretion of the student. Every effort will be made to notify students of changes ahead of the class in question and to fulfill the complete class term.

Pottery Studio Usage:

Pottery studio usage for non-students is allowed for Art Center members only with payment of the studio and materials fee. Studios may be used only during regular business hours when classes are not in session and the studio is “open.” Fees are: $20 per 2 hour session plus payment of a $50 materials fee (like a class studio fee). The materials fee will cover up to eight studio sessions in a three month time span. (Total cost of eight 2 hour sessions = $210.)

Reservation of Rights:

The Art Center and instructors reserve the right to refuse registration from individuals who have proven to be disruptive and/or detrimental to class or studio usage.
